How Do You Play Rugby?

Each team has 15 players. Every team plays Rugby to earn points by getting the ball across the opponent’s goal line or kicking it over the crossbar through the goal post. Players have to run fast. It is the continuous change of possession and actions.

Every player needs to run, pass, kick, and catch the ball. They need to defend and tackle the opponent’s though they’re playing in a specific position.

The Players:-

Each team consists of 15 players in Rugby. The team divided into two parts — Forwards and Backs. Forwards consists of 8 players and Backs has 7.

The Positions:-

The Forward positions are Hooker, Prop, Second Row, Flanker, and Number Eight. The Backs positions are Scrum Half, Fly Half, Inside Center, Outside Center, Wingers and a Full Back.

The Duration:-

The Rugby game has two periods of 40 minutes each. There is a 10 minutes interval between the two periods. After the interval, both teams change the ends. If it is a knockout competition, then extra time will be played.

The Rugby Equipment:-

The only equipment of the Rugby game is Rugby Ball. The balls look like football but have the oval shape, or you can say egg-shaped ball. It’s made of synthetic materials or leather features easy grip. Rugby ball comes in different sizes (3, 4, and 5). They’re for youth, intermediate, and adult players.

A player is offside when he is ahead of his team-mate carrying the ball. If a player is offside, it doesn’t occur penalty, but if he tries to play the football while being offside, he will give away a sentence.

The player who has the ball can be tackled and brought down to the ground. He has to release the ball and allow other players to play the ball.

The Ruck:-

After releasing the ball, the opposition player tackles it, and both the teams concentrate on pushing the opposing players backward. This action is what we call Ruck in Rugby. Any player can’t take the ball until it appears out of the Ruck. After this, the Ruck ends, and the play continues.

The Penalty Kick:-

The Send-Offs:-

When a player commits an extreme case of dangerous or rash play, then the referee ejects the player from the game and not allowed to return. The team has to continue the game without the ejected player.
